This period, Sengoku Jidai – Age of Hostile Country – would go on to become one of the most renowned civil wars of human history. The ruling lords, Diamyo, had grown stronger and began to question and challenge the leadership of the nation. With both the rank of Emperor and Shogun, formerly with unchallengeable power, declined in their influence and control, the power and control of the nation became highly contested. From the 15th until the early 17th century, Japan’s Shogunate was heavily contested by powerful lords from around the country.
